Albania is going through its best moment with regards to tourism from the nineties to the present.
In fact, foreign visitors have invaded the Country of Eagles from north to south. On the beaches of Durres, for example, it is very easy to hear people speak Polish and Czech, but also German, Spanish and English.
The Instat data
About 1,2 millions of foreign tourists visited Albania in July 2019, recording an increase of 14,5% compared to July 2018. If, on the other hand, we consider the first seven months of the 2019, the number of tourists rises to around 3,3 million, recording a growth of 12,4% compared to the 2018.
The country that has recorded the greatest growth has been Kosovo (+ 25,5%), while the country that has marked the greatest decrease has been Poland (-14,6%).
Polish tourists - as reported by the magazine Monitor - were among the first to discover Albania as a tourist destination, thanks above all to the ITAKA agency. In the 2018, according to the Instat data, it was visited by some 153.000 Poles (+ 34% compared to the previous year).
However, this year Polish tourists are showing less interest in Albania given that in July about 7000 tourists were registered less than a year ago. Maciej Sokalski, coordinator of a Polish agency and resident in Durres, confirmed for Monitor magazine that the Albanian packages are falling, since last year they reached a relatively expensive level and, for this reason, the Country of the Eagles is no longer regarded as an economic destination.
Kosovo Albanians ranked first
Unlike last year - when the Kosovo Albanians had not shown the traditional interest in the Land of Eagles during the summer - Kosovo returned to "dominate" the ranking of foreign tourists in Albania.
In the first seven months of the 2019, more than one million Kosovo Albanians entered Albania, recording growth of 14% compared to a year ago. Tourists accounted for around 34% of total admissions.
Behind Kosovo there are tourists from Macedonia (372.000 in total in 2019, growth of 3,4%), Greeks (311.000 in total), English (223.000), Montenegrins (216.000), Italians (159.000) and Poles ( 76.000).
Invasion of Durres: 26.000 passengers in 4 days
A few days ago the mass return of emigrants who spent their summer holidays between Albania, Macedonia and Kosovo began in the place of Durazzo.
From the data of the port authority of Durazzo it is deduced that for the period 16-19 August the ferries departed towards the ports of Bari, Ancona and Trieste have totaled around 26.000 passengers and 6.000 cars. While the ferries that made the reverse routes to Albania, they totaled 11.000 passengers and about 2500 cars.
Seven ferries sail from Durres to Italy and vice versa, carrying out two days a day on days with greater passenger flow.
Klosi: a new record in August
The tourism minister, Blendi Klosi, announced with a post on Facebook the 21 of August, reaching a new record for the month of August:
