Foreign tourists are taking advantage of bad weather this week to visit the historic centers of the city of Vlora. A large group of tourists - from Russia, France and Italy - went to the island of Zvërnec to visit the church of Santa Maria.
After lighting some candles in the church, now a monument of culture, a couple from Moscow left the building with great impressions.
"We found it in tourist guides. We really enjoyed visiting this place of Orthodox worship, because we are too. " - says the man of the couple.
"It's the first time in Albania. I had never thought of going there sometime, but in the end we took this unexpected decision after they showed us this place. " - continues the woman.
Tourists arrived at this place of worship thanks to PDF tourist guides on the internet, but the lack of a tour guide disappointed some of them. However, the lack of the guide was soon forgotten by tourists, once they found themselves in the tranquility of the island and in the beauty of the area.
Italian tourists claim that in Italy such a place would certainly not have such modest advertising.
"There is very little information for those living abroad. If this place were in Verona it would have been advertised all over the world. " - says an Albanian emigrant who has lived in Italy for years.
"It's wonderful here. The monastery is really very beautiful and peaceful. We arrived yesterday. It is our first time in Albania. " - states a tourist from France.
"People are very kind and welcoming here in Vlore." - states, instead, a French tourist.
After the reconstruction of the bridge, which connects the island to the coast, it would seem that the lack of a tourist guide is the last obstacle for the redevelopment of the area, in order to make it become a 'must do' destination for all tourists who they go to Vlora.
