As announced by Rama a few days ago, Albania has now opened land borders with neighboring countries, namely Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Greece.
But as expected by the premier, the other countries have not taken the same measures therefore do not allow movement in their territories. Only Montenegro allowed free movement without imposing conditions, such as the swab requirement and quarantine.
In order to enter Kosovo, the Kurti government has placed two conditions: The Albanian citizen who wants to visit the country will have to show at the border that he has carried out the swab and found it negative; a recent exam that is no older than four days. Otherwise you can cross the border by accepting a mandatory 7-day quarantine.
The decision was made last night by the government of Kosovo, and it surprised many Albanian citizens who wanted to cross the border. This measure will remain in effect until June 20. The decision by the Kurti government also took the border police by surprise, who only learned of the new measures this morning. These measures forced many Albanians who had left for Kosovo to go back, causing long lines in customs.
Not only. The government had also imposed a payment of 22 euros on trucks crossing the border for sanitation. After so many protests, the government withdrew this measure.
The only country that did not place special conditions apart from protective equipment (gloves and masks) was Montenegro. Circulation to this country continues smoothly.
Only Albanians who are in possession of Greek citizenship and seasonal workers can cross the border with Greece. Others, as in the case of Kosovo, must show the results of the swab. Otherwise they will have to perform the test in Greece for a cost of 120 euros to be able to move freely for work or tourism. For now, however, Greece has only opened to Schengen countries with certain conditions. The opening with Albania is scheduled for June 15th.
North Macedonia still remains isolated. The latest data on the infection are not encouraging. In the last 24 hours there have been 7 victims and 89 new cases of infection.
