Earthquake of November 26: the possible impact on tourism
There were 6,4 million foreign tourists who chose Albania as their destination country, making 2019 another successful year for tourism. But continuing with this success will largely depend on the recovery of the tourist image of the country, which has been significantly damaged by the earthquake of 26 November.
Many countries have seen their tourist areas hit by disasters, but in these cases, the speed of implementation of recovery measures is important. The recipe that has been proposed to Albania by foreigners for a fast recovery in the tourism sector is as follows: proposal of regional tourist packages, adequate international promotion, implementation of consolidated experiences in dealing with similar cases, a particular attention to reconstruction.
Polish, Nordic and German foreign agencies announce that if 2020 is properly addressed, 2020 could be another positive year in this sector.
Just at the beginning of this year, the Ministry of Tourism and the Environment organized the "Tourism, Solidarity and Sustainability" forum, an event that brought together representatives of the World Tourism Organization, ministers from the region and beyond, important agencies. travel and industry tour operators in the country. The event aimed precisely to attract the attention of the most important players in the tourism sector in Albania, addressing an appeal not to abandon them, encouraging them to continue the success story of the last few years, at a time when the growth of the sector is more important than ever.
Klosi: we will reach 10 million tourists
At the opening of the summit on tourism, the Minister of Environment and Tourism Blendi Klosi confirmed the goal of reaching 10 million tourists in the first years of the new decade.
"In 2013 there were 3 million tourists, 5,9 in 2018 and 6,5 million in 2019. Our clear challenge is to reach 10 million in the first years of the new decade. We are here with our colleagues to devise some support policies aimed at this sector and to support the intense work done by hoteliers and other operators in this sector.
It is clear that Albania is oriented towards the development of tourism and we do not focus only on numbers but on the transformation of this sector into a key and stable factor for the economy ", said Klosi.
