Maritime transport will take place in two stages:
- From today, 22 June 2020, all Albanians with residence in Italy (in possession of a residence permit) and EU citizens will be able to travel freely from Durres to Italian ports.
- All foreign citizens who are in Albania or come to Albania for business reasons can also travel by ferry.
- All Albanian citizens residing in EU countries who have residence documents from EU countries or other countries outside the EU are allowed to travel to and from Albania
- All Albanian and foreign diplomats will be allowed to move, as will diplomats from the Republic of Kosovo with their personal vehicles when entering and leaving from and to Albania.
(Based on current EU provisions - and we hope there are no surprises): from 1 July 2020, passenger transport in Italy will be open to all Albanian citizens.
Press release from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, together with the Maritime General Directorate, is working to allow the gradual and safe recovery of international maritime passenger transport.
The whole process focuses on ensuring the safety of passengers' health, strictly respecting all safety protocols approved by the Ministry of Health, based on the guidelines of international bodies.
Taking into account the needs of operators authorized in maritime passenger transport and the European Commission declaration of 11 June 2020, on the lifting of travel restrictions from 1 July 2020, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy announces that starting from from Monday 22 June 2020 all international passenger lines will be allowed.
In this new situation, the responsibility will lie with the international maritime passenger transport companies, which must take the necessary measures to allow the booking of navigation to and from the ports of the Republic of Albania.
International maritime passenger transport companies will also be responsible for informing passengers of possible restrictions on departures from the ports of the Republic of Albania and their intended destination, as well as on health and safety regulations at the destination where they will arrive.
The General Maritime Directorate will monitor the implementation of all measures as well as the action plan for the implementation of the obligations under the protocol on maritime transport operations, approved with decree no. 169 of 5 June 2020, by the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, together with the General Directorate of the Maritime and maritime ports of the country, undertakes to take all necessary measures to ensure safe navigation without compromising the health safety of workers and passengers.
