A tour guide to discover the Western Balkans. Thanks to the support of USAID, Albania is one of the six countries chosen to be part of the GeoTouristic Map of the Western Balkans (Western Balkans Geotourism Mapguide Land of Discover), an interactive web portal created by National Geographic and made available to institutions and people who want to know and do tourism in these countries.
Tourism is defined as one of the key sectors for regional cooperation in order to help the Western Balkan countries, including Albania, to leave without suffering serious consequences from the effects of the European economic crisis, pushing competition to national and regional levels. Tourism enjoys a unique and advantageous position in terms of economic and social benefits for local communities, in addition to the great role of raising awareness and supporting environmental protection.
This is among the first attempts at collaboration between the countries of the region to promote the Western Balkans as a single destination, underlining the great natural and cultural riches it has. The Mappaguida of the Western Balkans is an information platform that emphasizes and shows the authentic, natural, cultural and historical beauty of the Balkan countries.
It provides travelers with an online map showing the peculiarity and authenticity of the regions through the eyes of the local population. Through the interactive platform, the Guide Map connects travelers directly with local attractions and small or medium tourist businesses. The purpose of the National Geographic cooperation is to contribute to creating an increasingly positive image of the different regions of the Western Balkans.
