In Italy the decline in the number of births continues, as evidenced by the latest report by the Italian Institute of Statistics - ISTAT - concerning births in Italy during the year 2017.
According to the give ISTAT, the 2017 year has registered a new negative record for the Italian population. According to the latest data Istat, in 2017 they were born in Italy only 458.151 children, more than 15.000 less than the previous year (when 473.438 children were born). And the ninth consecutive decrease from 2008, year in which only 577 thousand children were born.
Among those born in the 2017, about 21% (99.211) has at least one foreign parent. This indicator has also been falling for five years (and, for the first time since the 2008, it fell below the 100.000 wall): last year, in fact, the total value amounted to 100.363 children, while even 107.339 in the 2012 .
Children born to both foreign parents were also down: in the 2016 they were 69.379, while for the 2017 the total amounted to 67.933.
Albania in the report
As for the Albanian community, there has been a slight growth: in fact, at least one Albanian parent 10.132 of children born in the 2017, unlike the 9.882 of the 2016. Instead, 7.273 are children born of both Albanian parents; value practically identical to that of the previous year (7.278).
As can be deduced from these data, the growth recorded within the Albanian community is due to the increase in births of mixed couples; although many of these couples are totally Albanian, with one of the spouses having obtained Italian citizenship.
For this reason, in fact, it is not possible to establish an accurate number of Albanian children born in 2017: some of the children are actually born of Albanian couples but, officially, they are registered as born by Italian couples because both parents have obtained citizenship.
Meanwhile in Albania, in the 2017, 30.869 children were born (the lowest value ever recorded in Albania since the 30 years, when births were officially registered). Considering that in the same year, only in Italy were born about 10.000 children with at least one Albanian parent, it is possible to deduce that more Albanian children are born outside the borders than in the same territory.
