1680 are the Italian citizens who live and work in Albania in the 2019, according to data published by the Italian Registry of Residents Abroad (AIRE).
The 76,1% of the total number of Italian citizens has emigrated to Albania, while 11,5% originated in the Land of Eagles. In total, 89 (5,3%) are Italian citizens who have acquired Albanian citizenship.
According to AIRE data, the 16,8% (282 in numerical terms) of Italian citizens has lived in Albania for less than a year; the 26,5% (445 in numerical terms) is in Albania from one to three years; the 21,8% (366 in numerical terms) reside in Albania from three to five years; the 23,9% (366 in numerical terms) from five to ten years; 11% (180 in numerical terms) for more than ten years.
Foreigners in Albania
According to data from the National Statistical Institute, 14.162 are foreign citizens with residence permits who lived and work in Albania in the 2018 registering a growth of 9,7% compared to 2017.
In total 9090 were the applications for residence permits in Albania in the 2018: this particular ranking is led by Iran, with 2223 requests for residence permits, followed by Italy (1709), Kosovo (996), Turkey ( 875), Greece (207), United States (350), China (213), Syria (260), Macedonia (154) and United Kingdom (132).
For the most part (72,4% of the total), residence permits were issued for work reasons and family reunification, compared to those for humanitarian reasons (18,1%) and study (4,5%). 345, on the other hand, were the citizens who acquired Albanian citizenship in the 2018 registering a growth of 9,2% compared to the previous year.
Asylum requests in Albania
Asylum seekers in Albania were 4386 in the 2018, exponentially increasing compared to the 2017. The main countries that have applied for asylum in the Land of Eagles are Syria (with 3089 requested), Pakistan (with 1246 requested), Iraq (671 requests), Palestine (395 requests), Algeria (with 378 requests) and Morocco (with 344 requests ).
The people who illegally entered Albania in the 2018 were 6893, registering an exponential growth even here compared to the 2017 (1049). All these people mainly come from countries like Syria, Pakistan, Iraq, Algeria, Libya and Palestine.
