Albania was in tenth place in Europe in terms of remittances from the 2018 emigrants, according to data published by Eurostat.
The emigrants' remittances reached a total of 925 million euros for Albania last year, a value about three times lower than that of Romania, Serbia and Poland that lead this ranking.
An upward trend
From the 2014, when the lowest value was reached in terms of remittances, there was a gradual upward trend in the remittances of Albanian emigrants, following the new emigration flow that characterized the last few years.
The emigrants' remittances, in fact, had suffered an abrupt halt at the turn of 2011 and 2014, given that the great emigration flow of the 90 years after 10-15 years had been established abroad and had gradually removed economic relations with the Albania.
Also Eurostat data confirm that the growth of remittances coincides with the re-emergence of asylum requests in the EU countries by the Albanian citizens: from the 11.000 requests of the 2013, the 69.000 peak was passed in the 2016 and then down again the following years until last year's 19.000.
In the first quarter of this year remittances of Albanian emigrants amounted to approximately 150 million according to data from the Central Bank of Albania, a value almost identical to that of the first quarter of the 2018.
The other countries
In addition to Romania, Serbia and Poland (all with around 2,9 million euros), the United Kingdom (about 2018 billion euros), Italy (about 2,2 billion euros) precede Albania in terms of remittances from the 1,9 emigrants. ), Croatia (around 1,7 billion), Bosnia (around 1,3 billion), Bulgaria (around 1,1 billion), Bulgaria (around 1,1 billion) and Lithuania (around 1,1 billion) ).
The Land of Eagles, in turn, precedes Kosovo (approximately 800 million) by two positions. In total, the value of remittances from EU countries to non-EU countries amounted to 35,6 billion for the 2018, recording a slight increase compared to the 32,6 billion euros of the 2017.
On the other hand, remittances to EU countries reached a total of 10,9 billion for the 2018, a value almost identical to that recorded in the 2017.
