Thanks to Vllaznia's victory over Kukësi last night, KF Tirana graduated Albanian champion for the 2019/2020 season eleven years after the last time.
For the biancoblu it is the 25th Scudetto in history (the most successful in Albania) which arrived in the club's centenary year. However, the season had not started in the best way: until December, KF Tirana struggled and replaced many coaches, first Ardian Mema and then Julian Ahmataj.
The turning point came just in December when Ahmataj was replaced by Emmanuel Egbo, who in the following 22 games to date at the helm of the biancoblu has achieved an extraordinary record of 18 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats that have given to the company of President Refik Halili the shield number 25.
From hell to paradise
And to think that only three years ago KF Tirana wrote the blackest page of its history, relegating for the first time in the Albanian Serie B. However, the ascent was swift and immediate: a nightmare that soon turned into a dream.
"Many years of sacrifices to make history. We never gave up and today we all celebrate proudly! I thank infinitely all those who contributed, the players, the staff, the collaborators and above all the oxygen of the club, the fans of the KF Tirana. This title is the gift for the biancoblu century. " - said President Refil Halili.
"Congratulations to the boys and to all the biancoblu fans. I thank everyone for what they have given. We deserved it. " - said coach Emmanuel Egbo instead.
KF Tirana will now have to prepare for the next Champions League preliminaries, which will start around mid-August. Given the low UEFA coefficient, the Albanian champions will not be seeded in the draw and will risk catching the likes of Astana, Ludogorets, Celtic, Legia Warsaw, Qarabag and Maccabi Tel Aviv.
