La court of Bari has rejected the extradition request to Serbia for Ismail Morina, the Albanian fan that the 14/10/2014 - during the notorious football match between Serbia and Albania - piloted the drone that depicted the flag of theGreat Albania', or the internal territory of ethnic Albanian and which therefore also included Kosovo, part of Greece and part of Macedonia.
The game, which was subsequently assigned to Albania as a table for the unrest created by the Serbian fans, did not end with that verdict: the Serbian authorities, in fact, who had considered this gesture as an affront and an offense, began a long judicial battle to ensure that Morina was extradited to Belgrade and served his sentence of eight years in prison.
In October of the 2016, the Albanian fan was arrested in Croatia on an arrest warrant issued by the Serbian authorities; remained in jail for 10 months until August of the following year, before being sentenced to house arrest and then to the obligation to stay in Italy, where he currently resides with his wife and his three children. The Bari Court of Appeal issued its own verdict yesterday, rejecting the request for extradition by the Serbian authorities.
The Albanian fan has always defended the innocence of his gesture, which had the sole purpose of supporting his team.
"It has been difficult months, my wife was pregnant and my third child was born while I was in my cell. I lived in uncertainty and fear of not knowing what would happen to me and my family. " - said Morina, who since that fateful 14 / 10 / 2014 has received numerous verbal attacks and death threats on Facebook and other social media.
Yesterday, with a post on Facebook, Ismail Morina first of all wanted to thank the Albanian consul in Bari, Adrian Haskaj, and then all the Albanian and Italian and Croatian authorities for what he has shown to him in this long battle.
Among the thanks, there is also room for his two legal representatives, Federica Lo Torto and Fabio Schino, both more than satisfied with the final verdict:
"Without revenue on the political merit of the affair, I am satisfied because the principles of law have been invoked." - said Schino at the end of the sentence.
