The Albanian Cup final played yesterday in Elbasan brought the curtain down on the 2018 / 2019 football season in Albania.
It was the Kukësi to win (the second in its history) the XNUMxesima edition of the national cup, winning for 67-2 against KF Tirana thanks to goals from Shkurtaj and Reginaldo - goals from the momentary draw signed by Ngoo.
The verdicts of the season
A victory for the KF Tirana would have given the blue-white also the last place valid for the Europa League preliminaries of next season. With the victory of Kukësi, instead, the last slot goes to Laçi, despite the sixth place in the league.
The Skënderbeu (fourth), in fact, is still servingimposed by UEFA last year, while Flamurtari (fifth) does not have the UEFA license to compete in European competitions. For this reason it will be the black and white who will play the Europa League preliminaries, along with Kukësi and Teuta.
The draw for the first round will take place on June 11 in Nyon: 27 went on June, 4 returns on July. The Kukësi will be inserted among the seeded players and, very probably, will be able to enjoy a draw at least on the easy card; Teuta and Laçi, on the other hand, will not be among the seeded players and risk to cross from the first round teams of the caliber of Legia Warsaw, Malmo, Molde, Apollon Limassol and FCSB.
The draw for the first qualifying round of the Champions League will take place on June 18, once the preliminary round is over and will see Feronikeli, Kosovo's reigning champion, engaged.
Albania will be represented by Partizani Tirana, returned to win the scudetto twenty-six years after the last time. The former army team will not be among the seeded players and, therefore, will have to hope not to meet 'European giants' such as Celtic, Rosenborg and Red Star.
The most playable seeded players, at least on paper, are: HJK Helsinki, Slovan Bratislava, Dundalk, Shkendija and The News Saints.
Retrocessions and newly promoted
Descend into Kategoria and Parë, Kamza and Kastrioti Kruje. The first after they had been excluded from the championship in March due to the referee's violence in the Kamza-Laçi match, while the latter at the end of a tight fight against KF Tirana and Luftetari Gjirokaster. Their place will be taken by Vllaznia and Bylis Ballsh, winners of their respective groups in Kategoria and Parë.
