A few days after Giuseppe Conte's visit to Tirana, Edi Rama reciprocates by coming to Rome tomorrow. We ask the two PMs to make a political commitment on the issue of pensions.
Tomorrow a new bilateral meeting between the Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and the Albanian Edi Rama will take place in Rome, which welcomed Conte to Tirana only a few days ago. The issue of pensions, which is most important to the Italian-Albanian community, was not discussed in that case. But in Rome it will have to be addressed.
There was no mention of pensions in Albania during Giuseppe Conte's visit. The phrase of the Italian PM rebounded everywhere is "not opening negotiations with Albania in Northern Macedonia was a historical mistake by the European Union". And the agreement between Italy and Albania to recognize the right to retirement of a growing number of people? Unfortunately, not one word was spent on the subject in Tirana. The task of resolving this issue is on both sides, but it is up to Albania to put it on the agenda.
Tomorrow the Albanian PM Edi Rama will be in Rome to return Conte's visit in record time. And in Rome the opportunity cannot be missed for the second time: the two Prime Ministers must make a political commitment to Italian-Albanian citizens, recognizing their right to a pension and acting so that the agreement can be finalized as soon as possible.
The first step is to put the pensions theme on the agenda. The second is not to stop at words, but to work concretely to finalize the agreement quickly. Albania News will be tomorrow at the joint press conference of Conte and Rama.
You can not waste any more time because you are hurting those who have reached retirement age without being able to have a pension either in the country of origin or in the one where you live. The number of people deprived of this right is growing. Help us make our voice heard by signing the petition "Pension is a right. We support the Italy-Albania agreement ", which has already reached 7.500 signatures.

This newspaper has been dealing with pensions between Italy and Albania for years. We take it up briefly: Italy has many bilateral agreements on pensions with countries outside the EU, from Argentina to Tunisia, which make access to treatment equal and ensure that all contributions paid in any country are recognized. once you retire. Unfortunately the agreement with Albania is missing. Albanian workers in Italy at retirement age or close to it paid contributions both in Albania (before emigrating) and in Italy. The lack of an agreement between the two states does not allow them to reach the pension neither in the country of departure nor in the country of arrival, thus penalizing the population that has sacrificed the most for that integration that today allows young Italian-Albanians to be so well placed in Italy.
The necessary commitment of the Albanians of Italy
The initiative of the petition comes after years in which the Italian-Albanians have tried in various ways to make this problem known and have tried to make the institutions of their country of origin and of Italy aware of it. The associations and many individuals, including a part of the pensioners directly affected, have organized conferences and implemented protests. Now this petition has collected 7.500 signatures. The challenge is to adopt, each of us, the petition, spread it and explain its importance.
