Fier, a city in Albania that has revived the spirit of citizenship, is the "city of its inhabitants", the result of social integration and solutions to citizens' needs.
Fier, an urban center that is constantly enriched with new functions, public and green spaces, playgrounds and recreational facilities, active cultural life; a city that has transformed the inhabitants into the most important elements.
As well as the symbols of the city, those that constitute the essence of their existence and identification over the years, such as the Gjanica river, the Apollonia archaeological site, the historical museum, the library, the church, the mosque, the Bylis theater, the new project for the redevelopment of the 'Rinia' bar and the new project of the Ri-Gjanica city center.
After a year from the 'Ri-Gjanica' call promoted by the Municipality of Fier, won by the study 'Mau Architecture' (which has been working for two years between Italy and Albania), another quality project arrives: the Mayor of the city of Fier, Armando Subashi, officially presented the new multi-purpose building ''Apolonia Palace'' as a continuity of the project for the redevelopment of the city center.
After a series of hypotheses presented over the last few months, the 11 in March 2019, Mau Architecture presented at a public conference the new proposal for the sports / multipurpose building in continuity with the redevelopment program of the city center of Fier.
Present at the meeting, in addition to the designers, the municipal administration and citizenship, there was also the Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Energy, Artan Shkreli, who said he was satisfied with the project and what was carried out by the administration until to date.
The urban redevelopment project has analyzed the fragility of the city from the beginning, but it has also been able to grasp historical and cultural aspects that were then put in the forefront in the approach to the design theme.
In fact, through the redevelopment of the Gjanica river, with new cycle-pedestrian areas, green public spaces, squares and the amphitheater on the river, it has been able to return the city to the community with a project accessible to all and above all in line with the standards of proposals projects implemented in many European countries.
A project that therefore brings together many cultural themes, daughters of the contemporary city and which is summarized in the public spaces along the river (amphitheater) and in the new multifunctional-sports building which, placing itself in the southernmost area of the entire project, goes to bring interest in that part of the city still to be regenerated, bringing a balance between the two banks of the Gjanica river.
An urban redevelopment put in place immediately by the public administration that from the 2017 to today, following the proposal of Mau Architecture, has implemented the transformation of the entire city center already regenerating much of the river.
Mau Architecture has always promoted urban and large-scale initiatives. With this intervention, he brought an innovative project to Fier, thanks also to the international experience cultivated over the years, following the guidelines of many other realities that are developing in Europe today.
A project that combines the new architecture with the pre-existing one, which carefully takes care of the relationship with the city between rebirth and memory and which has been able to grasp and bring to light the historical and cultural aspects of the city.
The proposal presented has an important specific weight for the city of Fier: the multipurpose building will not only be an architecture but a neighborhood with various functions, activities, public and private places of high quality.
A complex project but at the same time full of innovative ideas: an architecture that looks to Europe with ambition and brings Fier back to its ancient greatness, proposing it as a key international player.
