Prime Minister Edi Rama commented today on the news given by Tg3, which states that the cultivation of cannabis in Albania has increased by 12 times, classifying it as a journalistic shame and without any connection with the reality certified by the Guardia di Finanza.
"The news last night on RAI 3 about the alleged 12-fold growth of cannabis crops in Albania is a journalistic shame, without any connection with the reality monitored and certified by the Guardia di Finanza itself. We hope that our wonderful partners will tell the truth without wasting time "
The Rai3 report
Yesterday in the "Frontiere d'Italia" section of Tg3 there was talk of the phenomenon of cannabis cultivation in Albania which according to confidential reports has increased by 1200% or 12 times compared to 2018, with over 100.000 plants discovered.
“Cannabis production has returned to Albania in style. Since last year there has been an exponential growth of over 1200%. The aerial photos included in a confidential police report that Tg3 was able to read show it. Found about 100000 plants divided into small crops, hidden in the mountains of high and low plants; a quality imported from Vietnam genetically modified to have a very high percentage of active ingredient ", the evening news thunders in the column "Frontiers of Europe".
The TG then also broadcast the interview of the director of the Albanian criminal police, released a few months ago, thus recalling the promise to cancel the production of marijuana forever in the country.
"Through these large marijuana trades in which Albania is notoriously one of the largest producers, a considerable supply has been established, a considerable availability of money from the part of the Albanian mafia that has allowed it to enter fully into both the trafficking of cocaine than in other criminal affairs " adds Giacomo Cataldi, DDA Lecce deputy attorney.
The reactions of the opposition
Former Democratic Party deputy Ervin Salianji said in a press release that the Rai 3 report showed Albania that continues to be European Colombia.
“The growth of over 1200% of cannabis cultivation is a failure of Rama, and shows that he himself is the defender of organized crime bosses.
Edi Rama did a lot of propaganda in order to present Albania as a country of reforms in an attempt to reach European standards and join the European family, but the truth always comes out. Propaganda cannot always buy the truth. The Rai 3 report confirmed that Albania continues to be the Colombia of Europe and the country is increasingly in the hands of drug traffickers "
The statements of the Minister of the Interior
Interior Minister Sandër Lleshaj describes Rai 3's report on cannabis as unscrupulous journalism. Denying the data published in the report, he says that thanks to the collaboration with the Italians, Albania has been freed from the phenomenon of massive cannabis cultivation.
"This is not the first time that the media in Italy has fallen prey to the misinformation and irresponsibility of some individual who transmits false news about the fight against cannabis cultivation in Albania. This type of sensational and unscrupulous journalism outrages the splendid partnership with Italian colleagues.
Thanks to this collaboration, Albania has been freed from the phenomenon of massive cannabis cultivation, annually marking excellent results against crime in this sector. The battle continues ” writes the minister.
State Police statements
State police also reacted against the RAI 3 television broadcast that growing cannabis in Albania has grown exponentially. "The state police reject the results released by Rai 3, stating that they do not correspond with the data held by the Guardia Di Finanza."
With a statement the state police said that concerns were raised about the veracity of the results with the Italian partners asking for clarifications on the unfounded information that creates ground for equally unfounded attacks, stressing that the latter confirmed that the news is not based on direct sources .
