"An idea never materializes exactly as you thought. It takes different paths, unexpected shapes, new faces. It produces feelings and emotions that are inconceivable in those who have aroused it. But an idea is precious because it leads to the new, it is projected towards the future, it is the best antidote to the mold of the past and to the static nature of the present. "
One of the ways to embody an idea is to create: art and fashion are children of great ideas. The idea in question was to reinterpret the style of Albanian customs in a modern and current but above all usable key.
Despite the goal of erasing the past, fragmentation and particularism, pursued slavishly by Enver hoxha , the clothes worn by Albanian men and women, different from north to south, but also from village to village, have arrived to this day.
Emblem of a glorious past, but also of a rich cultural influence, of History with a capital S, traditional costumes contain all this and more: the soul and style of those who owned and worn them. They tell a lot, more than many books, they are historical and cultural memory of a country that is increasingly projected towards the future.
However, the past should never be forgotten and although it is true, as the Albanian saying expresses, "Koha and kaluar s'kthehet më" that past time never returns, the present is able to become a bridge between what has been and what will be.
In fashion this translates into clothes that recall tradition
An event, held on September 29 at the National Museum of Tirana, organized by Ti Institute - a brand new academic reality dedicated to fashion, aesthetics and photography - in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture allowed this special meeting.
Albanian designers are among the protagonists and participants Besa Rugova, Bela Belinda e Dorina Kola, adopted by Bergamo and founder of the D-Kola brand, which without knowing it, has always put in its garments, dedicated to a modern, strong woman, perfectly inserted in the present, a touch of her culture.
In the collections created specifically for the event, the young designers, after extensive research on traditional clothes that have characterized fashion in their country in the past, have created a perfect union, admired and appreciated during the event.
The choice of colors, fabrics, hand embroidery, the effect given by wearing, elegance, are tributes to the Albanian women who wore those dresses from which the designers and the event itself took their cue.
Strong women, creators and models of their own clothes: the xhubleta for example, one of a kind, one of the oldest and most beautiful, originating from northern Albania.
The presented collection creates a perfect balance between tradition and modernity, always enhancing femininity.
The event was a great success and a remarkable media coverage. It is hoped that this will be the first of a long series and will be able to make people aware of this very rich heritage represented by costumes and jewelry, attracting the interest of foreign institutions and tourists.
We cannot turn our gaze to the future, forgetting the past. Fashion is a great witness, both in the shoot and in the style revolution.
