Art as a privileged tool to make Mediterranean countries aware of environmental issues, recovery, the use of recycled materials, eco-friendly design, and «green» techniques. This is the line that ASA-The Other Adriatic Shore / L'Autre Rivage de l'Adriatique, with the patronage of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Albania, intends to deepen it by combining different experiences and professionalism.
The project, included in the cycle «Art and environment», starts on Thursday 11 July at 18,30 at the ABC Arte Gallery with the exhibition RE-PET of the Albanian Leonard Sherifi; the artist, born in Kucove in 1984, graduated in painting and specialized in Visual Arts and Performing Arts at the Ligustica Academy of Fine Arts, already has an intense work and a large exhibition activity at regional, but also national level. and international (Holland, France, Lithuania, Austria, United Arab Emirates).
Ecosustainability, and respect for nature, through pictorial and artistic expression thus become a moment of universal reflection and the thread of an expressive language chosen as a privileged instrument of a green vision of the contemporary.
And so the urban jungle of an American metropolis, emblem of modernity, is made, through the reassuring vision of Sherifi, with straws, low-consumption light bulbs, tubes, empty packages and plastic materials, including PET.
Even the caps of the bottles of mineral water can give life to a work that expresses the metaphorical brightness of a green sun. And again, PET balls placed on a trampoline that can follow the viewer. The concept expressed by the artist is simple and profound at the same time: "We do not pay attention to these materials because once they are used they are outside our home, but they remain the same in our biggest house, the world". The title therefore, playing with the English word «repeat» (repeat), gives new dignity to the PET: transformed from waste to an art form.
This is how Stella Seitun, curator of the exhibition, defines Sherifi's work: “RE-PET by Leonard Sherifi reflects on the process of alienation underway in the consumerist system. New creatures with a primitive appearance, PET sculptures, fantastic micro-cities made up of fragments of everyday or industrial objects, photographs, symbolic figures that express the sense of alienation of man in his artificial manipulation, paintings, all works that evoke the original structures of nature and the language of contemporary society in a continuous tension between life and death, new and old, between what is discarded and what remains in the life cycle.
A process of liberation that gives space to new forms, to new life, where the rejection of memory, oblivion, freeing ourselves from the weight of the debris of time announces a possible salvation beyond the physical and moral debacle of every production and consumption " .
