The president of the Albanian parliament, Gramoz Ruçi, met the president of the European parliament, David Sassoli, in Brussels today, thanking him for his support in Albania's European path.
"The destination of Albania is clear and already written: the European Union. The opening of negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia is of strategic importance and a stimulus for all the western Balkansi. "- declared the president Sassoli during the meeting.
Ruçi informed the president of the European parliament of the results achieved by Albania in meeting the recommendations of the European Commission and Council on key priorities, urging support in these crucial days for Albania and the region.
"The reform of the judicial system is continuing successfully and in the coming months the new organs of the judicial system will also become functional. We deal with corruption and organized crime with stricter laws, not with rhetoric.
We only have a plan A for our destination, and it is the European Union. Albania calls for the opening of accession negotiations because it deserves it and would be an added value for the EU."- said Ruçi.
For his part, Sassoli thanked the president of the Albanian parliament for the detailed information and expressed the total support of the European parliament for the opening of the negotiations:
"The European Parliament is firm in its positions because we are very satisfied with Albania's progress. I will address the European Council meeting by presenting the favorable position of the European Parliament at the opening of negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia."- added Sassoli.
The latter, together with Jean-Claude Juncker, Ursula von der Leyen and Donald Tusk (respectively former and current president of the European commission and president of the European council) had declared - in an open letter - that Albania and Northern Macedonia have done "What we asked them to do".
The president of the Albanian parliament, Gramoz Ruçi, also met with the chairman of the committee of foreign affairs of the European parliament, David McAllister, with whom he discussed the continuous collaboration between the European parliament and Albania focusing on common positions in foreign policy, regional partnerships and more.
