Albania and Northern Macedonia deserve the start of negotiations to enter the European Union: with one new recommendation at the European Council for Tirana and Skopje, Brussels gives its green light to the opening of accession negotiations for the two countries.
This was announced by the High Representative of the EU, Federica Mogherini and EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn, presenting the annual enlargement package.
"Full house to the committee for foreign affairs of the European parliament for the presentation of my last enlargement package. With good news for Albania and Northern Macedonia! The European Commission reiterates its recommendations last year to open accession negotiations with both countries now. ”- Enlargement commissioner Johannes Hahn published in a tweet.
The last word now returns to the EU leaders, who will meet the 20 and 21 June in Brussels.
The reactions of Albanian politics
The first to react to the Brussels recommendation was the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama with a tweet:
"The unconditional positive recommendation of the European Commission for the opening of official accession negotiations between Albania and the European Union, confirms that Albania has successfully fulfilled its duties in this process." - reads the post of Prime Minister Rama.
The foreign minister in charge, Gent Cakaj, also used twitter to comment on the positive news coming from Brussels:
"The European Commission was clear: Albania has produced tangible and lasting results on the conditions for the opening of accession negotiations. In this sense, the European Commission has reiterated the recommendation to unconditionally initiate negotiations with Albania ”- states Cakaj in the tweet.
