The ambassador of the European Union in Albania, Luigi Soreca, expressed himself positively on the reforms - in particular on that of the judicial system - undertaken by Albania in its integration process.
In this sense, Soreca also urged the authorities of the country to continue on these rhythms to hope for the opening of official negotiations in October.
The statements of Luigi Soreca
Furthermore, the EU ambassador focused on the electoral reform, which in his opinion is fundamental to approve:
"The October decision is important for the country but also for the European Union, given that trust in the enlargement process also has a question mark.
The countries concerned such as Albania and Northern Macedonia have fulfilled their duties, sufficient for the opening of negotiations not to become EU members. Winston Churchill said "this is the end of the beginning" not "the beginning of the end". I believe that the European Union should not turn off the hopes of the Albanians.
Albania must focus on the reform agenda and not waste time, so that October 15 is ready when EU ministers make the decision. The European Commission's May report shows that real progress has been made in the required areas, sufficient for the opening of negotiations.
But the reform process never stops, it must continue. An example is the daily struggle against corruption, organized crime and drug trafficking. Then there is electoral reform.
It is clear that the last elections have shown how important it is for the Albanian electorate to be given a totally different law for electoral issues so that they can fully express their will.
The reform of the judicial system is the pearl of Albania, even outside the region and in the world. It is a critical moment, so all the Albanian institutions must not lose concentration and remain focused on the objectives."- stated Luigi Soreca in an interview granted to Euronews.
