Former prosecutor Adriatik Llalla and his family will no longer be allowed to set foot in the US.
This is the verdict of the US State Department. The Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, has specified that this response is consequent to the implication of Llalla in many episodes of evident corruption. In fact, American law provides for cases such as these to issue a ban on the person involved and his family.
Adriatik Llalla and the reform of the judicial system
At the end of last January, the former chief prosecutor Adriatik Llalla requested not to be part of the justice system. Decision also communicated to the bodies responsible for the reform of the same system and which then pulls it out of the investigation concerning corruption and abuse of power (official verdict arrived on). All this is made legally possible by the reinterpretation of the law concerning the judicial reform carried out last December by the Constitutional Court. Initially, in fact, the law provided for a maximum time of three months, from the entry of the reform, to present the resignation.
The position of Donald Lu
From the American embassy in Tirana, the diplomat Donald Lu, declared that Llalla, despite having escaped the reform of the judicial system, will not escape the criminal investigation. The intent of Lu is to prosecute all those who escaped the reform by resigning from their office, as he himself declared:
"The resignation of some corrupt judicial officials represents a victory for us, because for at least 15 years they will not be able to return to the system. However, they do not exonerate them from their faults. Those who are afraid of the reform of the judicial system, must necessarily also be afraid of the inevitable criminal investigations "
Arta Marku: we must reopen the dossiers left open
The current chief prosecutor Arta Marku has openly criticized the quality of the investigations carried out to date, for which she has requested the reopening of the old dossiers left open:
“From a qualitative point of view, the lack of quality of some sporadic and disorganized investigations is evident. Courageous prosecutors must focus on investigations into corruption on all levels, abuses of power and the fight against drug growers and drug traffickers. It is necessary to increase collaboration with the judicial police, with the aim of reopening some investigations and increasing public confidence in the law and the courts. "
