Through an official statement, the Central Directorate for Operations for the Management of Natural Disasters published a preliminary report on the work of public institutions following the earthquake that the November 26 hit Albania.
The Council of Ministers
At the fifth extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers held today, the aid plans for the families of the 51 victims of the earthquake were approved - reports the statement. Plans that provide for immediate housing and special pensions for the earthquake victims, as well as the complete coverage of the costs for funeral ceremonies.
Currently, 2633 are the displaced citizens who have been housed in hotels in Durres, Shengjin and Kavaja, while they are 29 (22 at the hospital in Tirana, 4 at the Durazzo hospital and 3 transferred abroad) the citizens still hospitalized for medical treatment.
Property damage
To date, according to the latest preliminary balance sheet on a national scale, 805 are the buildings damaged by the earthquake (of which 461 were seriously damaged and 20 declared uninhabitable) for a total of 7091 damaged houses (of which 131 destroyed and 3811 seriously damaged).
In the district of Durres, where the greatest damage was recorded, an earthquake damage assessment unit coordinated by the deputy minister for infrastructure and energy, Artan Shkreli, was established. The unit is composed of experts from the United States, Turkey, Switzerland, France, Greece and other EU countries, as well as Albanian officials from the engineering institute and other institutions.
The current budget is as follows:
- Municipality of Tirana: 2000 damaged houses, unusable 410, damaged 202 buildings, unusable 4.
- Durres Town Hall: 378 inspected buildings, unusable 150, 21 to demolish.
- Kruja Town Hall: 46 inspected buildings, unusable 5, no one to demolish.
- Shijak Town Hall: 45 inspected buildings, unusable 25, no one to demolish.
In the meantime, the communiqué concludes, in Durazzo and Thumanë the demolition of the buildings destroyed by the earthquake continues based on the decision of the municipal council arrived after the official evaluation of the technical experts.
Until the 13: 30 today, when the release was published, 15 in total were the demolished buildings (7 in Durres and 8 in Thumanë).
