Another Albanian law is currently being amended or that concerning citizenship, which in addition to some fundamental changes concerning the criteria for citizenship will also bring changes to the rates for those who want to get it.
According to the state report, in fact, the current tariff would not correspond to the service costs and an increase would lead to a growth of revenues for the state budget. The rate proposed for the citizenship application amounts to 300 euros, about ten times higher than the current value and equal to those applied at the regional level.
The new tariff, which according to forecasts will bring about 500.000 euros (63 million lek) to state-owned houses, will be jointly approved by the Ministry of the Interior, the Economy and Foreign Affairs.
"According to data from the 2018 citizenship sector, around 1000 people are expected to apply for Albanian citizenship, of which 700 resides in the country and 300 abroad.
Currently the service tariff (for citizenship application) amounts to approximately 40 euros (5000 lek) for residents and about 30 euros for colors that apply to diplomatic offices abroad. "- reads the report on citizenship.
The new bill on citizenship
The bill has some fundamental changes, such as the 6 article which provides for the acquisition of Albanian citizenship based on the "ius sanguinis".
- Albanian citizenship is acquired by a foreigner whose ancestors are of Albanian origin, on condition that the applicant has a direct family connection with the ancestor up to three degrees.
- In this case the citizen submits a request for the acquisition of Albanian citizenship on the basis of the "Ius sanguinis" and meets the conditions set by the paragraph 1 of the 8 article of this law.
- The documentation necessary to prove the Albanian origin of the applicant is determined by the instructions of the ministry.
Another important change made to the law concerning Albanian citizenship is the release of the latter for anyone born in the territory of the Republic of Albania, an acquisition process that is indicated by the legal expression "Ius Soli".
In the article 4 concerning "the modalities of acquisition of citizenship", in fact, in addition to the origins and therefore to the "Ius Sanguinis", the "Ius Soli" is also mentioned, which guarantees citizenship to any person born in Albania even if none of the parents are Albanian citizens.
