Six days after the administrative elections in Albania the ballot in Tirana is over: a very narrow difference, only 10 votes for difference for Edi Rama.
Edi Rama is re-elected for the fourth time Mayor of Tirana. He wins with 10 (ten) votes of difference on Lulzim Basha! This at least comes out of the ballot box calculation, but the result must be confirmed by the Albanian CEC. Edi Rama 124597 votesLulzim Basha 124587 votes
Because of this small difference, a party was generated by supporters of both sides who claim to have won. At first, neither Rama nor Basha have yet issued statements.
Sali Berisha, prime minister and leader of the Democratic Party appealed for calm and asked supporters of both sides to remain calm and wait for the final results. He claimed that according to his data, he won Basha with a very small difference in data, but he repeatedly called supporters to stay calm and wait. Berisha then publicly thanked both the KQZ and the foreign ambassadors who followed the count in Tirana.
Berisha said that even in the event of a loss, your party will accept any KQZ statement. It was then up to Rama to declare that he had won, surrounded by his supporters. But we still expect confirmation from the Albanian KQZ (CEC), which could overturn this result. The difference is so small that further verification, even of small errors, can put everything back into play.
The CEC, which has the obligation to rule by 48 hours, should rule today or tomorrow. In a statement last night, however, the CEC indirectly frozen Rama, claiming that it is early to talk about victory and that it is appropriate to wait for the official ruling.
For his part, the right-wing candidate, Basha, spoke at the 20.00, declaring himself calm and awaiting the result of the CEC. Basha said they have to wait to get to know the winner and said he was ready to congratulate Rama in case the CEC confirmed his victory. This quiet and therefore rare declaration by Rama in the Albanian political world has helped to bring calm to each other. For the moment, therefore, even if seven days have passed since the elections, the battle of Tirana still seems long and insidious.
