The President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, thanked Albania during the solemn meeting "Thank you Albania" for opening its doors and heart to Kosovo in its tragic days between 1998 and 1999, at the height of the war .
"This is the greatness of Albania, this is the homeland of unlimited spirituality and solidarity. Kosovo is forever grateful to Albania. Without Albania, Kosovo would not be free and independent. Albania which has protected and strongly supported the sacred UCK project. ”- initially said President Thaçi.
Albania and Kosovo without borders
Kosovo's head of state later said that Albania and Kosovo should live in an area without borders:
"In 1999 the most armored border in Europe finally fell, the one between the Albanian lands. I believe that Kosovo and Albania will very soon have a common space without borders with a joint reality and future. Without borders in our region under the Euro-Atlantic umbrella.
In 1998-1999, the height of the war, despite difficult economic conditions, Albania welcomed about half a million Albanians from Kosovo. Today a special thanks goes to the Prime Minister of the time, Pandeli Majko, and to the current President Ilir Meta. Albania that defied Serbian genocide: this is the homeland.
Kosovo will always be grateful to Albania for welcoming the commander Adem Jashari, Fehmi and Xheve Lladrovci, Luan Haradinaj and many other fighters. We thank Albania for keeping us alive."- continued Thaçi, who then also addressed the theme of the tragic earthquake that hit the country of Eagles on November 26, 2019:
"Our feelings in those days were different, deeper, fraternal. The FSK and the state police immediately made themselves available. The Albanians of Kosovo gave everything for Albania in those tragic days, and for this I thank them."- concluded the head of state of Kosovo.
