Minister of Infrastructure and Environment Lumir Abdixhiku announced today that the decision has been made to suspend all flights and ground transportation from Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy.
The minister's statement
Following government decisions, today I accepted the recommendations of the Minister of Health and the National Institute of Health regarding areas of medium and high risk from coronavirus.
As a result, I decided to temporarily suspend all arrivals of airlines and land transport from these countries:
For the purposes of the organization, the decision will take effect in 24 hours, then tomorrow, March 13, at 15:00 pm. We are sorry for these measures, but we have no alternative. We advise citizens to reduce their travel abroad, because the same measures could also be taken by other states. As a country and as a state, I assure you that calmly and without panic, we will also overcome this challenge.
Hitherto no case of coronavirus infection occurred in Kosovo, but despite this, citizens rush to restock in food stores, to face possible isolation in their homes. Despite this race, citizens say that there is no lack of products on the shelves of the stores in which they are supplied.
The government of Kosovo, through Deputy Prime Minister Haki Abazi, has urged citizens not to rush to create food reserves, since there are currently sufficient quantities of food in Kosovo and that all shops are working at full capacity.
To date, Kosovo and Montenegro are currently the only countries in the western Balkans that have not experienced coronavirus cases.
The Embassy of Kosovo in Italy invites its citizens not to travel to Kosovo
The Defense Committee against Coronavirus urges countrymen to suspend visits to the country in the coming weeks.
Kosovo is one of the few European countries where the presence of coronavirus has not yet been confirmed. But Kosovo is a young and developing country, with a health system that still faces many challenges.
The situation in Albania
In the past 24 hours, 8 new coronavirus cases have been recorded in Albania, leading to 23 the total number of people affected in Albania.
Of these 8 new cases, 2 have had contact with the first recorded victim with coronavirus, a 73-year-old woman in Durres, who subsequently isolated themselves at home under medical supervision. These are two women who stayed in a room for 4 days with the 73-year-old, before the lady was diagnosed with coronavirus infection.
Meanwhile, today, March 12, it has been urban transport suspended in the city of Tirana and Durres. From tomorrow at 6.00 until Sunday midnight, the ban will extend to private vehicles in Tirana, Durres, Shkoder, Lezha, Elbasan, Lushnje, Fier and Vlora.
