The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, wanted to wish good luck to his counterpart in Florence, Dario Nardella, for the beginning of the electoral campaign, in view of the administrative elections to be held on the next 26 May.
Just a few days ago, in the presence of over 1.500 people in the auditorium of the Palazzo dei Congressi in Florence, the Florentine mayor started his election campaign, for a second term.
To support his friend, the first Albanian citizen, through a video message shared on his social media profiles, he complimented him for transforming Florence into a model of inspiration.
Erion Veliaj ended her video message also expressing her happiness with regard to the many Italian-Albanians who support Nardella and her team.
"Greetings from Tirana! I am very happy that my friend Dario Nardella and his team have started the campaign to bring Florence even more in vogue. Today, Florence is a model to emulate, a global city that proves that when a mayor promotes culture, art and sustainable mobility, it creates a quality standard.
Today many of us young mayors find a model of inspiration in Florence. I wish Mayor Nardella so much luck and I am happy that there are many successful Italian-Albanians who support him and his team. Good luck."
The link between Tirana and Florence
The Albanian capital, Tirana, from the 2001 is part of the list of 21 foreign cities, officially twinned with the city of Florence, tollora mayors: Edi Rama (Tirana) and Leonardo Domenici (Florence).
But the professional and friendship bond between Veliaj and Nardella, the current mayors of the respective cities, has led to many collaborations and exchanges of experience in mutual growth and innovation.
We cannot forget the project of 'Smart City', proposed by Dario Nardella, and enthusiastically adopted by Veliaj, introducing in Tirana the service of bike sharing 'Mobike', based on the Florence model.
The initiative launched last June has made Tirana the first city in the Balkans to undertake the service of orange bicycles.
In this regard, in ainterview for Albania News, Mayor Nardella expressed himself:
"I am very happy and glad that 'Mobike' has reached the capital of Albania. I am equally optimistic, as Tirana is a smart and young city. For this reason I am very sure that in Tirana this initiative will be welcomed in the best way, learning the usefulness and success of this 'Mobike' service. "
In the 2018, the first citizen of Florence during a visit to Tirana, he signed an important agreement with the mayor Veliaj.
It was another absolutely innovative project, as well as the masterplan of public lighting in the Albanian capital, created by Silfi (Lighting Company Florence and Smartcity Services Società Per Azioni).
Always taking inspiration from the good practices of Florence, with the replacement of 30 mila lamps with LEDs.
