The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko held an official meeting with the new Italian ambassador to Albania, SE Fabrizio Bucci, at the Bank of Albania headquarters.
The talks focused mainly on the performance of the Albanian economy and banking system, promoting Albania's potential, bilateral economic relations and the European integration process of Albania.
During the meeting, Governor Sejko informed Bucci about financial developments in the country, stating that the Albanian banking system is liquid, capitalized and with good profitability indicators. The main health indicators of the banking sector are also improving, where non-performing loans fell to the historical level of 8,4% in December 2019.
Focusing on the country's economic performance, Governor Sejko stressed that the growth rate continued to be positive, employment increased, the country's internal and external balances strengthened. The Bank of Albania has made the necessary contribution, facilitating monetary policy in support of sustainable economic growth and ensuring the country's macroeconomic stability.
The Governor also said that the Bank of Albania remains an institution fully committed to aligning with the legal, regulatory and operational framework such as that of the European System of Central Banks, as well as meeting the priorities resulting from the measures taken by the Bank of Albania to to favor the European integration process.
For its part, the Italian ambassador praised the Bank of Albania as one of the country's main institutions.
Bucci stressed the importance of joint projects between the Bank of Albania, the Bank of Italy and the European Central Bank, with the aim of further developing institutional capacity and contributing to the approximation of European standards and to speeding up the integration process .
Both parties shared the view that these negotiations should serve as a development factor and as an additional guarantee for future domestic and foreign investors. The other topic they focused on was the continuation and further deepening of structural reforms, a very important factor for the long-term and sustainable development of the country.
Ambassador of Italy Fabrizio Bucci also stressed the role of remittances and the importance of further strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries in order to encourage foreign investment in Albania.
Governor Sejko praised the fruitful collaboration between the Bank of Albania and the Bank of Italy, where joint projects have been developed so far, in particular the implementation of the twinning project "Strengthening the capacity of the Bank of Albania within the framework of the approximation with European Union legislation ”, a pre-accession assistance instrument (IPA II).
