Next autumn the Central Bank of Albania will put into circulation the new series of banknotes, with the first that will be those from 200 and 5000 lek to then gradually include all the others.
Virjon Lalollari, director of the issuing department of the Bank of Albania, stated in an interview with Top Channel that the current banknote series will be replaced because it is more than twenty years old, while the new banknotes will retain the same themes redesigned in a new format.
What will change in the new banknotes
However, the most important thing is that with the introduction of the new banknote series the security standards will increase:
"The new banknote series varies from the current in four main areas. First and foremost, that of security: the improvement in security features has made it possible to produce sophisticated banknotes that are very difficult to counterfeit." - declared Lalollari.
The first 'drafts' of the new banknotes are kept in secret by the Bank of Albania for security reasons, while abroad the printing process of the new paper currencies began, which will be presented to the public by the Bank of Albania itself through a specially dedicated event.
For the director of the Bank's issuing department, the new series of scheduled banknotes will begin to be introduced next fall, as they are currently in the printing process.
Furthermore, in the programs of the Bank of Albania there is the introduction - starting next year - of the 10.000 lek banknote, which will be the one with the greatest value that will be used in the Land of Eagles. The design will be dedicated to the national anthem and the figure of Asdren.
The most short-term news, however, concerns the coins from 10 lek which, starting from the next 25 June, will be replaced - as Sot reports - with a new series, which will have the same appearance, size and weight as the current one but which will differ in the year of issue and in the words Lekë and Shqipërisë (they will be written with Ë and not with E)
