The employees of the Tropoja municipality - where the mayor is Besnik Dushaj, a member of the Democratic party - broke into the city museum and took possession of the electoral material (from the next administrative offices) and then threw it into the streets.
Tensions that were also recorded in Scutari, where yesterday and today the Democratic Party militants did not allow the opening of the election office number 2.
The situation picture
The reactions came following the decree of the President of the Republic Ilir Meta concerning the cancellation of the next administrative elections; decree which, however, the parliament and the electoral commission considered invalid.
On the other hand, the mayor of Scutari - the democratic Voltana Ademi - is doing everything possible to implement President Meta's decree, as well as the other right-wing municipalities of the country. And from here that an unprecedented situation was born.
The municipality of Scutari, in fact, is hindering the electoral process by "blocking" one of the eight electoral offices located in the city, or that number two within the "Vllaznia" sports hall. Today, in particular, mayor Ademi deployed municipal police units in front of the building, not allowing members of the electoral office to enter.
All municipalities led by representatives of the non-parliamentary opposition (Democratic Party and LSI) requested the closure of the electoral offices following the decree of President Meta to cancel the elections scheduled for June 30. Furthermore, the municipalities in question have declared that if these electoral offices (located in buildings owned by the municipality) will not be closed, the intervention of the municipal police will be ordered.
In response the central electoral commission, through the spokeswoman Drilona Hoxhaj, announced today that all mayors who are trying to obstruct the electoral process will be brought to justice, stating that these will be sued for three crimes: abuse of office, obstacle to the electoral process and voluntary damage to electoral material.
