Two weeks after the official visit Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte in Tirana, today it was the turn of Prime Minister Edi Rama to pay an official visit to Palazzo Chigi.
The two prime ministers, as confirmed later in the joint press conference, have addressed numerous issues in the official meeting: from the mutual recognition of pensions to Italian support on the path to Albania's Europe.
The statements of Edi Rama
"A short time has passed between our two last meetings that follow one another as a significant expression of the firm will of the Italian people and their staff to support Albania's accession to the European Union.
As we have already done during the meeting with the prime minister, I want to express sincerely the sincere thanks for the decisive and firm position in the support until the end of the majority of the European countries that supported the opening of negotiations with Albania.
Unfortunately, the European council failed to make the decision due to denying Albania and Northern Macedonia what they deserved and thus sending a message and weakness and, clearly said, a message of impotence in keeping promises from the European Union.
But, as we have also said with the prime minister, Albania has no other way except the one we have followed so far together with our people, which is the road to full integration in Europe. And on this road we are confident also because we have great friends and strong partners like Italy and so we will continue on this road as we have done so far.
I have also informed the Prime Minister about the ongoing reform process which we will undoubtedly continue and we will carry out with the support of the Albanian Parliament according to all the indications we have been given. With satisfaction, I received full support from the Prime Minister for the new anti-corruption and corruption package we are preparing.
In Italy there are half a million Albanians and many of them are business owners contributing to the Italian state coffers and, on the other hand, 115.000 children attend Italian schools and 10.000 students are enrolled in the faculties of Italian universities with excellent results as I confirmed the prime minister.
The issue of social insurance must be addressed. Good cooperation continues between Italy and Albania, and attempts to reach an agreement need to be accelerated, which would be important for these families.
For these reasons, I think it is to thank the prime minister and Italy for the words spent in favor of the integration of the Albanians in Italy. - stated in the joint conference Edi Rama.
