The German Embassy in Tirana today made an appeal to Albanian emigrants and German citizens who wish to travel to Albania this summer warning them of the risks associated with COVID-19.
Currently, in fact, Albania is classified as a "high risk country" by the German health institutes for the new increase in positive cases in recent weeks and because "it does not offer health care according to German standards and has a limited test capacity for the COVID-19".
For this, the Embassy specifies, for all those who travel to the Land of Eagles there will be a mandatory 14-day quarantine on returning to Germany. For those who do not respect the quarantine, however, very high fines are provided. To date, Germany has recorded a total number of around 200.000 COVID-19 cases.
The appeal of the German Embassy
"If you have planned a trip from Germany to Albania this summer, please take into consideration the following: [...] Albania is currently classified by the competent German health institutes as a country at risk due to the epidemiological situation of COVID- 19.
If you decide to travel outside the country despite this notice, please be aware that German embassies and consulates can only help you to a limited extent if new restrictions are imposed during your stay abroad. Please keep in mind that medical care according to German standards is not guaranteed in Albania, and among other things there is a limited testing capacity for COVID-19.
In case of return from abroad, a 14-day quarantine is foreseen: if you are traveling from Albania to Germany - by air or land, by bus or car - you must obligatorily notify the competent health institution of your place of residence / stay once you return and submit to a 14 day quarantine. The quarantine requirement applies to all citizens (including Germans) regardless of the reason for the trip.
During the period of quarantine at home you will have the right to leave the house only with the permission of the local health institution. A violation of this obligation will be sanctioned with high fines. Possibly and where possible, a COVID-19 tampon would reduce the time of the quarantine but also for this reason it is necessary to refer to the health institution of your place of residence / stay.”- reads the Facebook post of the German Embassy in Tirana.
