"The Italian Embassy in Tirana is in line with today's statement from the European Delegation. It is of fundamental importance that citizens can exercise their right to vote regularly and it is the responsibility of the interested parties to ensure that the voting operations - monitored by the OSCE / ODIHR Mission with the involvement of observers from different EU Member States - are perform without any form of obstruction.
Any form of violence or incitement to violence will not be accepted under any circumstances. All political parties will have to show moderation and avoid provocative rhetoric. The Embassy of Italy recalls the absolute importance of the process of European integration of Albania.
In order for the country to proceed along this path, it is essential that the parties commit themselves as soon as possible to an open and frank dialogue to overcome the current political crisis and support the necessary reforms. In this context, the Embassy of Italy recommends to all parties to support the justice reform and invites the institutions and organizations concerned to commit themselves to speed up its application, with particular reference to the prompt nomination of judges of the Constitutional Court to guarantee their full operation. It is also important for the parties to commit themselves to electoral reform and to respect the rule of law, including the fight against corruption.
