Two weeks after the tragic earthquake that struck Albania on November 26, pupils and students returned to schools and universities.
As announced by Education Minister Besa Shahini, 9 December today resumed educational activities in the municipalities most affected by the earthquake (Tirana, Durres, Kurbin and Vorë) with more than 10.000 students forced to "move" since around 30 institutes, among the districts of Tirana and Durazzo are still unusable.
On the other hand, as regards the universities, a different discourse: while on the one hand that of Durres has normally resumed its activities today, on the other, in Tirana, some faculties of the university of the capital have decided to postpone further to the next week the resumption of educational activities due to some technical assessments to be carried out on the safety of university environments.
Veliaj: life goes on
The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, was present this morning in the school "Kosova" of the capital where he issued some statements:
"Today it seemed almost a first day of school. The recommendation of all the psychologists of the world after a natural disaster is that they resume normal everyday life as soon as possible. I wish the bell of this first hour reminds us that life ahead and that we must concentrate on our routine, on the normalization of the situation in Tirana.
We will try to make the schools that are currently unusable become ready again by the end of the month, so that after the New Year the lessons start again there too. At the moment, more than 90% of schools in Tirana have reopened the doors.
I hope everyone can get some of the energy from these children while Tirana returns to normal. If we think positively, we will do things well. If, on the other hand, we think of the victims, we will "victimize" ourselves to infinity. Now, with the people who have returned to their homes and with the boys who have resumed lessons, we have achieved two of the greatest post-earthquake goals. I believe that for Tirana the best is yet to come. "- said Veliaj.
