The European Commission has approved a 100 million euro package to support reconstruction efforts in Albania following the November 2019 earthquake.
The funding is part of the total commitment of 115 million euros made by the European Union to the donor conference "Together for Albania" in early 2020 (in total donors signed a collective commitment - grants and loans - of 1,15 , € XNUMX billion for Albania).
"With the adoption of this € 100 million financial package, the European Union respects its commitment to help Albania in the reconstruction efforts following the earthquake, just as we are supporting the country in addressing the consequences of the COVID crisis. -19. We kept our promise to support Albanian citizens and renewed our support for Albania and its European future ". - said European Commissioner for Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi.
The newly adopted program will focus on rebuilding educational structures to allow children and young people to return to school in better conditions and with better facilities. It will build on the work already started under the current reconstruction program from 15 million euros funded by the European Commission.
The new program will also finance the rehabilitation of damaged cultural heritage sites, including monuments, museums, libraries and archaeological sites, thus also contributing to local economic development.
