The hours of fear and concern, due to the biggest earthquake of the last 30 years that struck the country yesterday, continued throughout the night until this morning among the population in Albania.
Il earthquake of magnitude 5.8 and 7.5 intensity recorded yesterday at 16: 09, in fact, was followed by many other shocks of smaller magnitude and intensity recorded until today's morning 22 September. The seismologist Rrapo Ormeni, in a statement for Report TV, announced that the tremors recorded in Albania were 340, most of them almost imperceptible.
Furthermore, Ormeni stressed that the whole country should consider itself lucky, because the consequences of the earthquake could have been much more serious:
"We were very lucky. The earthquake damage was minimal, because the earthquake was very deep (20 km, ed)."- said the seismologist for Report TV.
However, the continuous tremors have brought more than 500 citizens to the capital Tirana to sleep in the tents of the reception center set up by the competent authorities.
To date, more than a hundred people have been injured when they went to the hospital for medical treatment. Many more, however, damaged buildings, particularly in the districts of Tirana, Durres, Elbasan e Fier, where the earthquake was most felt.
Edi Rama: the citizens affected by the earthquake will be compensated
In the morning, in Durres, Prime Minister Edi Rama held a meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of the Interior, the Civil Emergency and the Prefecture to learn about the damage caused by the earthquake, in which he gave the order to set up a reception camp within the "Niko Dovana" stadium in Durazzo.
The prime minister also specified that all the damage caused by the earthquake will be identified and, in the cases that require it, the people affected will be compensated.
The Minister of Education: schools closed in Tirana, Elbasan and Durres tomorrow
The minister of education, Besa Shahini, announced that tomorrow the schools in Tirana, Durres and Elbasan will remain closed.
"I have been in direct contact with the school administrators of all the schools: in total there are 98 schools that have suffered damage, but only 2 have been reported as unsafe.
For this, the school infrastructure is fully ready for tomorrow's lessons. But citizens are not emotionally ready to go to school. It is understandable and taking this into account and listening to psychologists, we have decided to keep schools closed in Tirana, Elbasan and Durazzo tomorrow."- said Besa Shahini.
