Seven Italian experts will be added to the team that is evaluating the damage caused by the violent earthquake that struck Albania on 26 November.
According to what reported by "Balkan Web", the team of Italian experts has already arrived in Albania and will collaborate with the Prosecutor of Durres in the investigations regarding the tragic earthquake. The group arrived from Italy at the request of the Attorney General, Olsian Cela, and with the help of the "Pameca" project in Albania (aimed at consolidating the capacities of the Law Enforcement in Albania).
The delegation arrived in Albania - led by the two prosecutors of the L'Aquila prosecutor's office, Fabio Picuti and Michele Renzo - will offer technical assistance in relation to the consequences of the earthquake of 26 November 2019. Yesterday, the team met with the Prosecutor Cela, while today he went to Durres.
The experts in question took part in the investigations following the tragic earthquake in L'Aquila on April 6, 2009, which caused 309 victims, around 1600 injured and more than 80.000 displaced people. In the cities affected by the earthquake in Albania, the Prosecutor's Office has launched investigations for crimes such as office abuse and building abuse.
The earthquake in Albania
On 26 November 2019, a violent earthquake of magnitude 6.4 struck Albania causing 51 deaths, more than a thousand injured, 14.000 injured and tens of thousands of damaged buildings (a large part seriously damaged or destroyed).
The European Union immediately activated itself by sending search and rescue teams to the country of the Eagles, at the request of the Albanian government. These teams were then joined by experts and engineers to estimate the total damage of the earthquake in a way that can offer a picture as complete as possible during the donor conference of 17 February, organized by the European Union to support post-earthquake reconstruction in Albania, coordinate an international response and collect the financial support needed to assist the long-term efforts that will be needed to achieve this.
