The alarming numbers of new cases of contagion in the past three days forced Prime Minister Edi Rama to return with statements about the pandemic after he announced on May 27 that it would be his last communication on COVID-19.
The increase in the number of infected people, and in particular those hospitalized due to the lack of awareness on the part of citizens, led Rama to warn the population to change behavior, otherwise they will return to quarantine, as in March.
A warning, even if the head of government wanted to say that he does not want this punishment for citizens or businesses, but if this situation does not change starting today, then he will step back with the country totally closed.
Today Albania has registered the greatest number of infected people within 24 hours of the start of the pandemic, reaching 44 infections, an unexpected increase that also coincides with the increase in hospitalized patients. There are currently 52 patients at the infectious disease hospital, the only COVID hospital (after Covid2 closed) 8 of whom are in intensive care. Also in the past 24 hours a person has lost the battle against the coronavirus. It is a 59 year old from Lushnja.
The statements of Rama
“Do you want us to become human and follow the rules, or will we act like that cow kicking the bucket after filling it with milk? I am very worried and I am not going to stand by and watch those who have forgotten that the coronavirus has not escaped.
For 3 days we have had more hospitalizations than in full epidemic. I do not want to launch a punitive offensive for companies that do not respect the protocols because I know how much they have suffered, but I have not changed my mind: the economy falls and recovers, but the dead do not return.
I don't even want punishment for people who are indifferent now that we're open. I know how much they all suffered and how much unparalleled solidarity it took to get out winners and I don't want to think about quarantine.
But if we continue like this and do not change the behavior already today and the number of hospitalizations will increase, unfortunately there will be nothing to do and we will have to go back to the beginning.
Therefore, I invite you to reflect and do the right thing, because it is in our hands to do the right thing, get up and heal the wounds and do what we are called to do ", said Rama today.
