The Durres Prosecutor's Office officially launched an investigation concerning all damage to homes and buildings following the November 26 earthquake.
According to Euronews Albania, cases suspected of building abuse (including the homes of the earthquake victims) in the coastal city are more than 200: specifically, the 6 collapsed buildings in which there were victims and 200 homes declared unusable throughout the district.
The investigation by the Durres Prosecutor's Office will focus on building permits, their implementation and the technical-administrative tests carried out by engineers and architects, as well as the municipal officials who have signed the permits. Furthermore, it should also reveal if the damaged buildings had obtained approval from the institute of seismology.
Rama and the duty of construction companies
At the 07: 00 today Monday 2 December was the fifth extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers, in which Prime Minister Rama made a final appeal to the Durazzo construction companies after yesterday he had invited them to repair the buildings that do not present significant damage, specifying that otherwise they will be punished with prison.
"By today, all the construction companies in the Durazzo district will be notified to present themselves to repair the insignificant damage to the buildings under the strict supervision of the control groups. Those who do not fulfill this duty will be charged directly before the justice bodies and will receive a conviction for lack of responsibility.
These are damages that do not threaten the stability of the buildings but have to do with their current state of unavailability derived from building abuse during their construction. The 99% of buildings that present damage are the result of building abuses, most of them carried out by individuals and non-companies. ”- declared Prime Minister Edi Rama at the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers.
