Today in the capital Tirana - starting at 10: 00 - there will be another protest protest by the opposition.
Parliamentary session canceled
The president of the parliament, Gramoz Ruçi, announced yesterday that today's parliamentary session will not take place due to possible scenarios of violence in the area surrounding the Parliament.
The goal of tomorrow's protest - as reported by the police - will be, in fact, to enter the parliament by force.
"Taking into account the appeals of police and partners, I invite all my fellow Members to understand the decision not to hold the parliamentary session of tomorrow 21 February, 10: 00.
[...] The images of violence have a negative impact on the integration processes of our country, given that Albania is waiting for the opening of official negotiations . "- said Ruçi.
The statement of the Italian embassy and the statements of Alberto Cutillo
As happened already on Saturday's protest, yesterday the Italian embassy also wanted to pre-alarm its citizens through a statement:
"On Thursday 21 February 2019, starting roughly from 10.00, will be held a political protest demonstration that will affect the area surrounding the Parliament (pedestrian area George Bush and Bulevard Giovanna D'Arco), and that could interest the whole Boulevard Deshmoret and Kombit.
It is recommended to keep away from the interested area, to avoid gatherings, to follow updates through the press and, in general, to use the utmost caution.
It should also be noted that the event could have repercussions on the roads for access to the city. ”- reads the release
Even the Italian ambassador in Tirana, Alberto Cutillo, expressed himself in the evening on today's protest:
"Protest demonstrations are a legitimate means of expression of democratic society, but freedom of expression cannot justify statements that incite violence and even less violent acts.
I hope that tomorrow's demonstrations will be peaceful and that full respect for state institutions will be maintained. Any violent expression of dissent will be firmly condemned by the Italian side. ”- said Alberto Cutillo.
