Every citizen of the Republic of Albania who has a passport that expires in three months must necessarily request a new one because it will not be possible for him to cross national borders.
As the month of July approaches, summer holidays also begin for those wishing to spend days outside the country. However, a useful advice comes directly from the State Police, which makes known the information about being careful of the expiration date of your passport.
State Police communication
In its notification, the Police definitively explains that no one with a passport at less than three months will be allowed to leave the country.
This deadline is also closely linked to the time allowed for Albanian citizens to move within the Schengen area: therefore, if the validity of a passport is equal to or less than the 90 days, the owner of the pass is forced to apply for the delivery of a new biometric, therefore not being able to leave the country.
The procedures for requesting a new biometric passport are the same as for the first time. The citizen must first buy the coupon at the Albanian post office, then he must make the self-declaration near the police station in the area where he works and after the police station sends the request to the offices of the administrative unit where the request is made, with attached photo and registration of fingerprints.
All Albanian citizens who received biometric passports during the period in which Albania was allowed to stay (for a short duration) due to travel reasons in the countries of the Schengen area - that is, 10 years ago - must check the validity of their passports, so as to avoid problems on arrival at the border points, where the police will not allow anyone to leave with a passport with less than three months of validity.
Most passports were issued during the early months of the 2009, of which 1.4 million are about to expire.
