Genoa stopped for the solemn 19 funeral of the victims of the Morandi bridge collapse.
A long, moving applause greeted a delegation of fire brigade rescue and recovery teams in extreme conditions who worked in the concrete blocks of the collapsed bridge in the Blue pavilion of the Fiera di Genova. They have recovered survivors but also lifeless bodies.
They too, the firefighters, were moved and passing the altar they caressed the 19 coffins one by one. They have all received the embrace, the caress of the relatives of the victims as a tangible sign of thanks for having at least returned them a body that they can at least caress with their eyes looking at the coffins and then honor them in cemeteries. Thanks for having tried, and never stopped, to save those lives.
