On Saturday 24 October, it was an extraordinary day for the Albanian community of Parma. Finally, the Scanderbeg Association has managed to achieve one of the most ambitious goals since its foundation: the opening of the Albanian school. This is an Albanian language and culture course that will be held on Saturday from 15 to 18 until June of 2010 at the Vittorio Alfieri school.
4 the main subjects in which children of Albanian origin will test themselves, from 6 to 11 years: Albanian language, literature, geography and history, but will also teach dance and folk music lessons and notions of computer science. 7 the teachers, all volunteers and Albanian citizens residing in Parma, by profession teachers, who will teach the children the language and rhythms of the land of the eagles.
The response of the Albanian community of Parma, which participated in numerous at the inauguration of the school, was favorable and warm. Amidst amazement and embarrassment, the children open their folders and browse through the textbooks, while the parents who are visibly moved say they have waited so long for such an initiative.
There are also flowers for teachers, as is used in Albania on the first day of school. 20 the children enrolled until now, but the organizers are confident that the number of members will increase very soon and the Scanderbeg Association is already trying to resolve the issues concerning the spaces, the involvement of other Albanian teachers residing in Parma, the funding and schedules.
Lorenzo Lasagna, Municipal Councilor for Social Services and Gabriela Biacchi, a member of the Municipal Council of Parma, also took part in the inauguration. They also valued the previous initiatives of the Albanian community to maintain and cultivate their origins.
The President of the Association, Durim Lika, a teacher by profession, was moved. In his opening speech he emphasized the importance of the Albanian school for the generation of the "new Parmesans", born in Parma but of Albanian origin who will have the opportunity to cultivate. and preserve the identity and roots that link them to Albania, without becoming part of a closed and secluded community from the rest of the Parma community.
Lika also wanted to thank all those who with their contribution have made it possible to open the school by making the spaces available, financing expenses or donating textbooks and various school materials.
