Focus on Albania last night, Thursday 30 September 2010, at the "Pippo" Youth Center in Bolzano. The operators of the Youth Centers of Alto Adige told their experience of the intercultural journey in Albania, last April.
Through a photographic exhibition, a video and a documentary brochure (all produced by the operators themselves) a dialogue was started between the operators of the Youth Centers and the Albanian community invited to the meeting. The Vice President of the Province, Christian Tommasini, intervened at the meeting appreciating the validity of these intercultural projects, because knowing the cultures and habits of a people helps to distance themselves from prejudices of various kinds. Tommasini also stressed that it is "important for children to be equipped with knowledge tools from other cultures to become active and aware citizens in a multilingual society". The study trip to Albania is part of a program of interventions for the 2010 centered on interculture as a discovery of the "other". The goal is to allow young South Tyrolean people to deal more consciously with new citizens through their knowledge of their cultures. The initiative involves the school and culture sectors in Italian and German in the field of youth policies. The operators of the South Tyrolean youth centers together with the youth services officials will continue the collaboration around the theme of interculture, becoming points of reference for intercultural activity with young people.
