Five months after the flood, I discovered a plaque commemorating the victims of that tragic November 4: Gioia and Janissa of 8 and 1 year, their mother Shpresa Djala, Angela Chiaramonte, Evelina Pietranera and Serena Costa. The Mayor of Genoa Marta Vincenzi, the Councilor for Demographic Services Paolo Veardo and the honorary Consul of Albania Giuseppe Durazzo took part. Poor and at the same time an eloquent symbol of the embrace of an entire city, the text of the plaque: «In memory of Gioia and Janissa and the mother Shpresa Djala, Serena Costa, Angela Chiaramonte, Evelina Marina Pietranera. Victims of the 4 flood on November 2011 ».
The Honorary Consulate of Albania expressed its deep appreciation for the attention shown to the families of the victims.
At the ceremony, in the flower bed between corso De Stefanis and via Monticelli, there was the family of the two Albanian girls overwhelmed by the fury of the water and the relatives of the other victims (photo by Angela Valenti).
