We received this letter from the EDA center at Chiari. A contribution on the reasons of the First March that we gladly publish, sharing its content.
Thanks from Albanianews.
On Monday 1 March an immigrant strike was called in which we decided not to go to work, to school, to the supermarket, because in "a day without us" the Italians understand how important we are for this country. The reasons that led us to make this decision are many and we would like to explain some of them. A big problem is that of the residence permit: without work we cannot get it. At least before, at the time of the request, a receipt was issued with which it was possible to continue working, but not anymore! Furthermore, dedicating yourself to preparing documents requires a lot of expenses, long waits and too much time lost.
We are then very worried about our children: even if they were born in Italy they cannot obtain citizenship up to 18 years, and then at school it was decided that in a class they could not be more than 30%, but because it is necessary to divide the Italian children from foreigners? Unfortunately we are in a period of crisis, but not only immigrants have to pay. It was not caused by us, indeed the Italian State should try to help us and provide subsidies even for our families in difficulty: enough with layoffs and evictions.
Italians should also understand that we are very important because we deal with the most humble jobs they refuse to do, and we are often exploited and underpaid.
We are very impressed by the behavior of Italian politicians who do not clearly say what they think of foreigners, but even worse is to see some candidates who speak very badly of immigrants to get more votes from Italian citizens. We all want to take charge of our duties, but we also want our rights to be respected. So we hope that there can really be an equal law for everyone, because being a foreigner is not a crime, and maybe soon we can express our opinion also through voting. But we also need right laws that take into consideration our real problems, so no to the points permit, to the Bossi-Fini law, to the various initiatives of the mayors (for example the “Bianco Natale”) or to the idea on the Milan metro have carriages reserved only for non-EU citizens.
Many, finally, think that foreigners are just incapable and ignorant, and it is another big problem not to have the possibility that our qualifications are recognized here too. Italians should rethink how hard it was to live as an immigrant, away from the family and submerged by a thousand problems, since they were even before us! Now it's time to say enough of all these forms of intolerance that we find at work, in schools, public offices, on the streets, in too many moments of everyday life! We need to resolve this situation and the only way out is the collaboration between Italians and foreigners, but such a gesture must be based on mutual respect. Italians must understand that we love this country as much as they do, we want problems to be solved because this has also become our land, where we have decided to live our lives and grow our children. The road to integration is long, but it may be easier to follow it together without cultural bias! Only in this way will we together be able to revive the fate of this Italy in crisis and make it soon a better country economically and humanly.
