The Marubi Museum opens the November 1 exhibition “Seven Albanian photographers. A residence "by François Cheval, internationally renowned museum curator from 1982.
Emigration, this nameless exile, is part of everyone's journey. We do not yet know what keeps them so together: the spirit of the country, love for the homeland, the clear awareness of a national renewal ...
Taking a look at the past, their work sometimes looks at the elderly who continue to live in their native country; at other times it goes beyond the time of the ancestors or founders. They do not analyze the landscape, they contemplate it. However distant they may be, they cannot understand what to take and what to keep. In some recent trips, they predict that the return home is accompanied by a strong fog, but that it is never too late ".
For the first time, the spaces of the Museum are open to a group of young Albanian artists.
Their selection took place through a joint open invitation of the 'Art House' and the Marubi Museum for the third edition of the Art House School artistic residence entitled "Beyond the Image" (19 August-15 September 2019), which focused on the close relationship of the author with the image and the complex possibilities that this relationship activates.
The artists - Abi Shehu, Bib Frrokaj, Elton Gllava, Erdiola Mustafaj, Erjola Zhuka, Marlin Dedaj, Orestia Kapidani - they spent a four-week period in Scutari, where through presentations of completed works, discussions on projects or initial insights for works not yet born, reading texts and film projects, reflections and debates created a space for individual investigation.
At the end of this experience, the exhibition comes as a moment of knowledge of the contemporary Albanian scene and at the same time expresses the attention of the Marubi Museum on its dynamics.
Of the seven artists who will participate in the exhibition, 4 are Italian-Albanians.
