At Colle Don Bosco the spring festival was an opportunity to gather in a large picnic in the countryside and attend a special mass: in Albanian. The cultural association Mother Teresa of Asti has been involved for several years in creating a united Albanian community, which finds itself in moments of celebration and cultural events that invest themes of their own.
The spring festival was the last occasion that allowed the gathering of the Albanian citizens of Asti and the surrounding area, with the aim of creating a joyful atmosphere and remembering their traditions.
This initiative took place at Colle Don Bosco, where it was possible to celebrate Mass in Albanian language first, and then take a collective picnic in the countryside. Although the typical Elbasan holiday is scheduled for March 14, the association has decided to extend it to 18 Sunday, so that it is possible to participate for all families.
The Mass was celebrated by the national commissioner of the CEI Fr Pasquale Ferraro, an Arberesh descendant of an Albanian family who fled to Calabria following the Turkish invasion. At the organ, Leonard Plumbini, and in the choir Kozeta Negri Guli, Silvia Guli and Rozeta Brozi Plumbini.
At the end of the Mass, it was the turn of traditional foods, including, in addition to the byrek (savory pie) and kernacka (Korça meatballs), ballokumas, typical of the Spring Festival, were not lacking. It was therefore an opportunity, even for the Italians present, to taste the Albanian specialties.
The day continued with games, dances and songs accompanied by the sound of guitars. The girls instead dedicated themselves to gathering the first violets and daisies, to celebrate the scent of spring.
The event ended with a warm wish to meet again the following year, more and more numerous, thus reaching the ninth edition.
