The twenty-first fair of the book of Tirana, which will be open until Sunday 18 November, started yesterday at the Palazzo dei Congressi.
The Book Fair
The Fair, as usual, will be a very important cultural event for the Albanian world but not only, because it also affects the Albanians outside the borders: Kosovo, Macedonia and Diaspora.
As in every edition, the main object will be the best books published during the year. The Fair will gather all those people whose work has the book as its epicenter: authors, publishers, translators, representatives of the press and the media, in order to develop cultural contacts between them and promote reading in general in the public, especially among young people. The Fair also presents an area exclusively dedicated to discussions on art and culture.
Today, the conference 'Reading challenges today! What young people read in Albania ', organized by the association of Albanian publishers, in a discussion group with publishers, writers, representatives of cultural and educational institutions, teachers, librarians, translators etc., with the aim of sharing thoughts about the promotion of reading and the education of readers, especially boys and children.
The inauguration ceremony
Yesterday, as scheduled, the inauguration ceremony was held. Before it, on the occasion of the Scanderbeg commemorative year, the book 'Scanderbeg' by Alessandro Cutolo was presented in anastatic reprint and translated into Albanian.
The book is the biography of the Albanian hero based on documents from the Sforza archive, from the state archive of documentary testimonies, including a Venetian nobility concession diploma issued to the Albanian national hero in the 1463, and kept in the Castriota archive Scanderbeg of the Marquis of Auletta, in Naples.
Alessandro Cutolo (Naples, 28 March 1899 - Milan, 14 March 1995) was an Italian television presenter, actor and historian. He was professor of medieval history at the University of Rome of Bibliography and Library Science at the State University of Milan.
He was the first director of the monthly Historia (periodical), published by Cino del Duca, starting from December 1957. He became popular as a host of the broadcast 'A response for you' broadcast by RAI from 1954 to 1968, one of the first cultural dissemination programs offered by television. He was the first cultural popularizer of RAI.
