In the framework of the XVIII week of Italian Language in the World, the Italian Residence in Tirana hosts the exhibition "Vision of Boundaries: Albanian Artists in the Italian Academies of the first half of the 20th Century" from 17 October to 31 December 2018.
Designed by Artan Shabani, the exhibition collects some significant works from a selection of Albanian painters who studied at Italian academies as young people and who occupy a special place in twentieth-century Albanian painting, of which many paintings are exhibited in the country's most prestigious museums. The works exhibited at the Residenza d'Italia - mostly unpublished - are a precious part of the history of Albanian art and its artists.
The exhibition is part of the broader project that the Italian Embassy in Tirana is carrying out for the reconstruction of the ties between Italy and Albania during the Cold War years, with the hope that it could constitute a further contribution to the reconstruction of our shared history and culture.
The exhibition is open to the public only by booking a guided tour. Interested parties are requested to send a communication email in advance to email@example.com. The date and time will be fixed compatibly with the requests received.
Some works will be exhibited for the first time
The exhibition - which will exhibit for the first time some rare works by Albanian painters, recovered from the funds of eight well-known collectors and family members of the artists - will be opened with the support of Ambassador Alberto Cutillo.
Recognizing and preserving this part of history (between the two world wars) in the most dignified way possible is everyone's duty, from public institutions to family archives, which inherit paintings, sketches, sculptures of each artist.
The Italian Cultural Institute, collectors and families of Albanian artists collaborated to open this exhibition; who collected the artistic heritage of the first half of the twentieth century. As well as well-known scholars, who thanks to their work have contributed to the recognition and appreciation of the creativity of this historical period.
